Hair and Jewellery Fittings: Which one is right for me?

A fitting is the part of the jewellery/ hair decoration which makes it possible to be worn, such as a comb or an ear wire.

With jewellery by Angela Kerr you are in control of how your jewellery is finished to best suit you.

To help you decide Angela has put together a guide for these different fittings and what styles they work best with. You will also see a list of which fittings work for each product on every individual listing.

Hair Decoration Fittings:

Comb

A comb is the most popular style of hair fitting as it works with both long and short styles whether your hair has been put up or left down. A comb is also considered a lot more comfortable than a tiara or Alice band as it doesn’t need to press into the head at all to stay secured. The size of the comb will depend on the hair decoration itself and is always as small as possible so that it is not seen when worn.

Hair Pin

Hair pins are suitable for Up-do’s. A hair pin is a prong shaped pin on the back of the decoration which means that it is simply pushed into the hair style. Hair pins work particularly well when you are wearing multiple hair decorations as they can be pulled in and out of the hair style until you find the desired effect.

Alice Band

An Alice band sits behind your ears with the decoration designed directly on top. This style is usually best for younger children.

Tiara/ Crown band

A tiara/ crown band is similar to an Alice band but the decoration on it is designed to one side so that the band itself can be worn with the arms going straight back with the decoration then sitting upwards. When used as a crown the band is left circular and simply sits on top of the head.

Jewellery Fittings:

Ear Wire/ Hook

All earrings featured are seen with an Ear Wire (or Hook as it is sometimes called). An Ear Wire simply pushes through the earring hole to sit snugly around the ear.

Ear Stud

A stud is the traditional type of earring fitting which has a small ‘butterfly’ on the back to secure it in place. Depending on preference you may feel this is more secure for you.

Earscrew

If you do not have pierced ears then the Earscrew is the only option for wearing earrings by Angela Kerr. The earring itself simply hangs from the front and a small screw can be tightened at the back to secure it to your ear.
